Sidmouth & Surrounding Areas
The beautiful Regency town of Sidmouth forms part of the National Heritage 'Jurassic Coast* with its south facing beaches backed by spectacular sandstone cliffs along which the South West Coastal Path meanders.
Abounding with cafes, restaurants, individual shops and pubs, there are also many gardens to enjoy, especially Connaught Gardens to the western end of the Esplanade with sheltered walks amidst borders overflowing with colourful flowers and exotic shrubs, all on a background of magnificent sea and coastal views.
In the evening there is the Manor theatre which, during the summer months, stages a variety of plays by the Charles Vance cast, and at other times produces acclaimed plays and musicals performed by the local Operatic and Drama societies. The local cinema shows the latest films and programmes are varied to cover most tastes.
The nearby towns of Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth to the west, Beer, Seaton and Lyme Regis to the east and Honiton and Ottery St Mary to the North are all worth a visit and with Exeter and its impressive Cathedral only 15 miles away there are plenty of opportunities to explore without venturing too far. |
